Why one image needs so many sizes

Each platform shows images in its own shape: Pinterest favours tall 2:3 pins, YouTube thumbnails are wide 16:9, and Stories fill a phone screen at 9:16. Uploading the wrong shape means the app crops it for you, often cutting off text or faces.
