Etsy Print Ratio & Frame Size Guide
Which sizes to include in your printable downloads, and exactly how many pixels each one needs to print sharply.
Why sellers group prints by ratio
A ratio is the shape of a print — how its width compares to its height. An 8 × 12 and a 16 × 24 print are the same shape (2:3), just bigger. So one well-made file at the largest size can be printed at any smaller size in the same ratio without stretching or cropping.
That's why most Etsy digital art listings include around five files: one for each common ratio. Buyers pick the file that matches their frame and print it at home, at a local print shop or online.

Pixel sizes are worked out at 300 DPI, the usual standard for sharp prints. Portrait sizes are shown — for landscape, simply swap width and height.
2:3 ratio
The classic photo shape — the same proportions as 35mm film. One file covers the most popular frame sizes.

3:4 ratio
A slightly squarer shape, common for gallery-style and home wall frames.
| Print size | Centimetres | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 6 × 8 in | 15.2 × 20.3 cm | 1,800 × 2,400 px |

| 12 × 16 in | 30.5 × 40.6 cm | 3,600 × 4,800 px |
| 18 × 24 in | 45.7 × 61.0 cm | 5,400 × 7,200 px |
4:5 ratio
Very common in the US — 8 × 10 and 16 × 20 frames are sold almost everywhere.
| Print size | Centimetres | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 4 × 5 in | 10.2 × 12.7 cm | 1,200 × 1,500 px |

| 24 × 30 in | 61.0 × 76.2 cm | 7,200 × 9,000 px |
11:14 ratio
A standalone size that doesn't fit the other groups, but buyers often ask for it.
| Print size | Centimetres | Pixels at 300 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 11 × 14 in | 27.9 × 35.6 cm | 3,300 × 4,200 px |
ISO A-series (√2:1)
The standard paper sizes in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of the world. Every A size has the same shape, so one file scales to all of them.

300 DPI vs 72 DPI
DPI (dots per inch) is how many pixels are packed into each printed inch. Screens look fine at low DPI, but prints need far more detail. An image that looks crisp on your phone can come out soft or blocky on paper if it doesn't have enough pixels.
The simple rule: inches × 300 = pixels needed. A 16 × 20 inch print needs 4,800 × 6,000 pixels.
- 300 DPI — best quality, recommended for anything viewed up close.
- 240 DPI — still looks good, and handy when your image is a little too small for 300 DPI.
- 72 DPI — screen use only. Not suitable for printing.
Packaging your files for Etsy
- Etsy lets you attach up to five files to a digital listing, each up to 20 MB — so one file per ratio fits neatly.
- Make each file at the largest size in its ratio. Buyers can then print it smaller without losing quality.
- Name files clearly (for example "2x3-ratio-up-to-24x36.jpg") so buyers know which one matches their frame.
- If a file is over 20 MB, save it as a JPG at high quality, or split sizes into separate ZIP files.
- Swift Resizer puts every size into one ZIP, organised into a folder per ratio.
